Dense Dark Double Chocolate Brownies
This is hands down the best homemade brownie recipe I have ever come across. They are moist, dense and taste like a chocolate candy bar.

Dense Dark Double Chocolate Brownies
By: Debby Penkwitz
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter (no margarine)
- 4 ounce bar of unsweetened chocolate
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts, divided
- 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
To give these brownies an even richer taste, try adding a tablespoon of good barrel proof bourbon. Chocolate and bourbon are a match made in heaven.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter and broken up chocolate bar in a medium saucepan on low heat, stirring to assist melting. Remove and cool slightly.
Step 2
When slightly cooler, add sugar to pan and beat until smooth. Add eggs one at a time beating after each addition.
Stir in vanilla.
Add flour and stir until incorporated.
Mix in ONE CUP of the walnuts.
Step 3
Spread into well greased 9×13 pan. Sprinkle the remaining walnuts and the chocolate chips on top. Press down slightly.
Step 4
Bake 35 to 40 minutes, and watch them carefully as chocolate scorches and burns easily. Do not to overbake.
Step 5
Cool before serving. Best with vanilla ice cream if you have some on hand.
