Muah Chee *Mochi in Peanut
This is a quick way to make a dessert from my younger days, and I love the gooey soft and then crunch that you get with each bite.

Muah Chee (“mochi” in peanut)
By: Yin Ling Lee
You can make it the traditional way by steaming instead of microwaving and can change up the recipe by using black/white sesames instead of a peanut base, or use a different flavored oil to give the “mochi” a different taste. Hmmmm maybe truffle oil? (This isn’t mochi, but I don’t know another way of calling it in English. So “Mochi” it is.)
Ingredients
Mochi:
- 130g Glutinous rice flour
- 2 Tbsp. tapioca flour
- 220ml water
-
2 Tbsp. sesame oil
-
80g ground roasted peanuts
-
50g fine sugar
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Place the “Mochi” ingredients into a bowl and mix till there are no more lumps.
Pour into a microwave safe dish.
Microwave on 1000W setting for 2 minutes.
Remove dish and knead mixture with a rubber spatula.
Return to microwave for 1 more minute at the same setting.
Remove and knead until well mixed.
Step 2
Mix 80g ground roasted peanuts mixed with 50g fine sugar.
The peanuts can be ground fine or mildly coarse depending on how you like it.
Step 3
How to eat:
Wet scissors and chopsticks a little to prevent the dough from sticking too badly. Use scissors and chopsticks or fork to lift out a portion of the dough into the peanut and sugar mix.
Whilst mixing the dough in the mixture, cut into smaller bite size pieces.
Coat each piece completely with the peanut mix.
Place the smaller pieces into a plate, serve and ENJOY.
