Strawberry Pretzel Salad

By: Christie Kiefer

This is a favorite at work functions. It sounds healthy with the “salad” as part of the name, but it tastes like a “light dessert.” Enjoy at breakfast, lunch or dinner events.  I always have takeaway containers available and never take leftovers home.

Ingredients

Layer 1

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • 2 cups pretzels, crushed

Layer 2

  • 1 (8-oz.) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 (12-oz.) container whipped cream topping

Layer 3

  • 1 (6-oz.) package strawberry gelatin
  • 1 1/3 cups boiling water
  • 2 small packages frozen strawberries with juice
  • 1 (8-oz.) container whipped cream topping

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Layer 1:
Mix together pretzels, sugar and butter.  Press into 9″ x 13″ baking dish.  Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.  Let cool in refrigerator.

Step 2

Layer 2:
Beat cream cheese.  Add powdered sugar and continue beating.  Finally, add whipped topping to cheese and sugar mixture.  Spread on top of pretzel layer.

Step 3

Layer 3:
Dissolve gelatin in boiling water.  Partially cool, then add strawberries and let set.  Spread on top of cheese layer.  After gelatin mixture has set, top with a layer of whipped topping and serve.
